Dermaplaning

How Does It Work?

There are two types of skin exfoliation: chemical and physical. While treatments like medical grade chemical peels use exfoliating chemical substances to remove dead skin cells and facial impurities, dermaplaning is considered physical because it utilizes only a scalpel to delicately abrade the surface of the skin. Using gentle, feathering strokes, dermaplaning exfoliates dead skin cells and removes vellus hair or “peach fuzz”. Dermaplaning is quick, non-invasive, painless, and involves no downtime. We recommend dermaplaning as often as monthly. Dermaplaning is not offered by itself but is offered with our facials, HydraFacials, and chemical peels. Hair removed by dermaplaning will grow back in one month but does not grow back thicker or darker.

The superficial exfoliation provided by dermaplaning allows for better product absorption, smoother makeup application, a brighter complexion, and skin that appears less dull. Dermaplaning is a mild anti-aging procedure with no down-time and should only be performed in a Physician’s office.

Nearly everyone is a candidate for dermaplaning, including women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. However, dermaplaning is not recommended for those with open wounds or active acne as it can be irritating to these conditions.
