botox injections

Do you wish that you looked as young as you felt? Do you have lines and wrinkles caused by overactive muscles? If so, you may be wondering whether you are old enough to get Botox injections. We proudly offer this injectable muscle relaxant treatment at Nicole Norris MD Medical Spa in Peru, IL, near Princeton and Ottawa, to help clients achieve a visage they can be proud of. Today, we’re looking at the best age to get injectable muscle relaxants.

What Is the Best Age for Getting Botox Injections?

Generally, the best age to get Botox injections is when you are in your mid-30s. However, there is no universal answer to when the best time to get injections is. At the end of the day, everyone ages at a different rate, and the right time for you to come in is when your self-confidence is negatively affected by the visible effects of the aging process.

One completely natural part of the aging process is a change in your facial appearance. Your muscles, after being too tense for too long, start to wrinkle. Eventually, factors compound to the point that your eyebrows start to sag. You can try all of the anti-aging serums you want, but they won’t be effective. This is because your cosmetic concerns are caused by muscles that are far too tense. Here are some problems this injectable can reverse.

Crow’s Feet

One of the most common signs that the time is right to get Botox is permanent crow’s feet extending from the outer corners of your eyes. The eye area is usually one of the first places to reveal the signs of aging due to how thin the skin is. This is such a common problem because thicker skin is more resilient and takes longer to wrinkle when the underlying muscles wrinkle.

Another reason why so many people have crow’s feet at an early age is that the muscles around the eyes are used almost constantly. Crow’s feet often develop when you smile or laugh. However, they can also deepen when you blink or squint to protect your eyes from sunlight.

Glabellar Lines

Another common sign that now is the right time for injectable muscle relaxants is glabellar lines running horizontally between your eyebrows. The forehead region is another area that commonly shows signs of aging. This is because the forehead muscles are so large and strong that they are prone to deep wrinkling.

Even though your forehead skin is thicker than the skin around your outer eyes, when your glabellar muscles deepen enough, your skin wrinkles. Due to how strong your  glabellar muscles are, when they succumb to years of overuse and wrinkle, the wrinkles that appear are extremely deep. Even worse, they can only be treated with injectable muscle relaxant treatments and are difficult to impossible to hide with cosmetics.

Forehead Folds

It is also a strong sign that you need injectable muscle relaxant treatments now if you have forehead folds that once only formed above your eyebrows when you raised or lowered your brows. Like your glabellar muscles, your forehead muscles above your eyebrows are large, strong, and prone to wrinkling after decades of use. Fortunately, after just one or two treatment sessions, we can erase the deepest dynamic facial folds for months at a time.

Nasolabial Folds

It is not uncommon for people to develop nasolabial folds. As a good rule of thumb, if you have nasolabial folds, sometimes referred to as smile lines, you will probably qualify for this treatment. However, it is very important for you to come in for an initial evaluation if you have moderate-to-severe folds between your mouth and nose.

An evaluation is so important because nasolabial folds are sometimes caused by volume loss rather than overactive muscles. During your evaluation, we will determine the cause of your cosmetic concerns to determine which type of anti-aging treatment is right for you.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

You may be considered a good Botox candidate if you have any of the cosmetic concerns mentioned above and you are at least 18 years of age. Fortunately, there is no such thing as being too old for injectable muscle relaxant treatments. However, you should be aware that you need to be fairly healthy to qualify.

Also, you should keep in mind that you may be considered a good candidate for this anti-aging injectable if you have cosmetic concerns caused by overactive muscles that were not mentioned above. Some of the medical factors we consider when evaluating who qualifies for this treatment include diabetes, cardiovascular issues, sleep issues, pregnancy, and nursing.

There is no universal best age to get Botox injections. Typically, people don’t start receiving injectable muscle relaxant treatments until they are in their 30s.
