What is Fractional Non-Ablative Resurfacing?

non-ablative resurfacing

Fractional non-ablative resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that uses a special laser to stimulate collagen and remove dead skin cells on the surface. This process leads to a fresh new layer of skin being revealed and to renewed, healthier, more youthful looking skin. It’s a non-invasive, safe and effective way to improve the health of your skin.

About Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing

The lasers used in non-ablative resurfacing are known as “fractional” lasers. They incorporate thousands of thin, deep columns called “microthermal zones” to deliver the laser heat to the skin’s surface. This method delivers the energy deep into the surface of the skin to stimulate collagen to tighten skin while eliminating the uppermost layer of dead skin cells. The purpose of this specialized treatment is to allow for faster healing. New, fresh and healthy skin will grow in place of the old, dull skin cells. You can expect smoother skin with fewer lines. Recovery time is shorter with the use of fractional lasers, and the potential for complications is reduced. You may need more than one session to achieve optimal results.

How It Works

The area to be treated will be cleaned. Then, the laser will take a series of passes across the area, first horizontal and then vertical. These passes will overlap. An advantage of non-ablative skin resurfacing is that it’s quick and has an easier, shorter recovery time. One of the most significant benefits that come from fractional laser use is the stimulation of collagen production within the deeper layers of skin. This helps to ensure your skin will be healthier than before.

After Treatment

There could be slight swelling, redness or itching following your procedure. These should be minimal and subside shortly. There is no downtime, and you can return to your regular routine right away after the procedure. Makeup can be used to conceal any redness. Avoid too much sun exposure until the skin is healed completely. Use a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF during this time. Your practitioner will provide any other specific aftercare instructions.

If you’re tired of dull skin and fine lines, now is the time to do something about them. Non-ablative resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that can help you get smoother and younger looking skin in a convenient, safe and effective manner.
