How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

Microneedling

Sometimes referred to as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is one of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments on the market. There are many benefits of this treatment, including how convenient this treatment is and how quickly the results become apparent. Today, our aesthetic experts at Nicole Norris MD Medical Spa in Peru, IL are taking a closer look at the most compelling benefit of this treatment, how long the results last.

How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

Sometimes, microneedling results are permanent. However, they don’t always last a lifetime. Sometimes, the results only last for four to six months. We can give you a better idea of how long you can expect your final results to last once we have discussed your cosmetic concerns thoroughly and evaluated them. Among the factors that affect the longevity of collagen induction therapy results are:

  • The concern you’re correcting
  • The severity of your cosmetic concerns
  • How well you care for your skin health after your treatment

If you’re using collagen induction therapy to eliminate scars, like stretch marks, acne scars, trauma scars, or surgical scars, your results will last a lifetime. However, if you’re treating a cosmetic concern caused by collagen loss, you can expect your ideal results to last for several months. For instance, you may need to come in for treatment a couple of times per year if you are worried about such concerns as:

  • Enlarged pores
  • Moderate or severe wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Dry, rough, or dull skin
  • Uneven skin tone

How Soon Will I Be Able To See My Final Results?

Typically, the final results of this treatment become apparent after four to six weeks. However, you can see your final results faster by not smoking, drinking alcohol only in moderation, staying hydrated, and eating nutritiously. You can also ensure your results don’t take too long to develop by protecting your skin from sun damage after your treatment.

At the end of the day, you can’t see your final results until your skin has produced enough extra collagen in response to the collagen induction therapy. However, your skin can’t produce extra collagen without the requisite building blocks, like vitamin C, amino acids, and water. Therefore, if you’re dehydrated or not nourished adequately, it will take longer than it should for your final results to become apparent.

How Many Collagen Induction Therapy Sessions Will I Need?

The number of collagen induction therapy sessions you will need also affects how long it will take you to see your final results. If you’re treating a mild concern, you will only need one treatment session and should expect to see your final results in just a month or so. For instance, you will only need one session if you’re worried about enlarged pores.

However, you may need two or three treatment sessions if you have mild concerns, like frustrating volume loss-caused wrinkles and folds. Since treatment sessions should be scheduled four to six weeks apart, if you need two treatment sessions, it may take you two to three months after your first session to see your final results. You may need four to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart if your concerns are severe in nature.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

To find out whether microneedling is right for you, you need to attend an initial evaluation so we can learn a bit more about you. For example, we need to know about your cosmetic concerns and aesthetic goals. We also need to know about your health history and current health. Once we have a better idea of where you are and where you want to be, we will advise you on whether you qualify for this treatment.

We will also let you know how many treatment sessions you should expect to need to achieve your ideal results. We will also let you know what steps you need to take to prepare for your treatment, give you a comprehensive overview of what to expect, and advise you on how to care for yourself after your treatment is over.

How Should I Prepare for My Collagen Induction Therapy Session?

One of the reasons people love collagen induction therapy is that there isn’t a lot of preparation required. However, it is very important that you follow all of the preparation steps. If you don’t we may need to postpone your treatment.

For example, it is imperative that you prevent skin irritation on the day of your session. This means that you shouldn’t use skincare products that contain retinol, expose your skin to sun damage, or wax the treatment areas. You should also prepare by not taking NSAIDs or other blood-thinners.
