Chemical peels are one of the most sought after non-surgical cosmetic treatments available today. Medical grade peels are in particularly high demand because they are safe, physician-tested, and bring dramatic results.
In healthy skin, cells turn over approximately every 28 days until age 30, after which this natural exfoliation process decreases at an estimated rate of about 10 days every decade. As we age, medical grade chemical peels are very important for not only treating, but preventing signs of aging. Located in Peru IL, the practice of Nicole Norris M.D. is committed to providing patient-centered cosmetic care in an alluring office environment.

What are Medical Grade Chemical Peels?
A chemical peel is a chemical exfoliation and resurfacing procedure that peels away the top-most layers of the skin to reveal healthier, younger looking skin. Chemical peels induce a controlled wound response. When skin responds to acute inflammation, it stimulates the growth of new cells and increases speed of cell turnover. Chemical peels are separated into Very Superficial, Superficial, Medium, and Deep peels which refer to how deep into the skin the chemical penetrates and which type of skin cells are stimulated. What sets medical grade peels apart from other chemical peels is that they are targeted at specific skin conditions, are more than just exfoliation of the dead outermost skin cells, and are performed only by doctors and trained nurses. All of the peels that our medical professionals utilize were developed by PCA SKIN, the pioneer of the chemical peel 25 years ago, and have been extensively studied and guaranteed to be both safe and effective.
What are the Benefits of Medical Grade Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels provide the patients that receive them with a number of cosmetic benefits. While some people are curious about skin rejuvenation, they may be hesitant to undergo extensive laser or injectable treatments. Chemical peels provide a unique opportunity for patients to get the results they are looking for without committing to a more invasive procedure. Chemical peels can be used to treat a wide variety of common skin concerns, including:
- Uneven texture or tone
- Hyperpigmentation (age spots)
- Sun damage
- Superficial scars
- Fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity
- Razor bumps and inflammation from shaving (men)
What Should I Expect from a Medical Grade Chemical Peel?
While each medical grade chemical peel that we offer is a little different, chemical peel treatments typically go through an eight-week cycle. Within the first 48 hours of treatment, patients notice that their skin has a healthier, more radiant glow. After 3-7 days, dead skin cells and impurities have been entirely expelled from the skin. Between 28-48 days after treatment, collagen begins to regenerate, leaving you with stronger, tighter, healthier looking skin that lasts. It’s recommended that patients receive another chemical peel between 4-6 weeks after treatment in order to remove any newly accumulated dead skin cells and facial impurities. It is common for a physician to recommend a patient to undergo a series of 3-6 medical grade chemical peels in succession to address and treat a particular skin condition. While chemical peels have been extensively studied and have a proven safety profile, they bring with them some mild side effects. These include redness, flaking (think eraser shavings), dryness, and stinging at the treatment site for 2-14 days depending on the depth of the medical grade peel.
